It was founded in 2016 by a group of experienced researchers and engineers in the fields of photonics, biophotonics and signal processing. The core competence of the company associates with the ability of its people to work along the innovation chain of photonics-enabled products from the concept idea to the prototype. Optagon Photonics offers a broad range of services and solutions for the development of optical sensors in lab-on-a-chip and remote sensing applications, and for the development of optical transceivers and switches in optical communication systems. Innovative Products and Services
Optagon Photonics creates innovation in the following parts of the innovation chain of photonics-enabled products: Photonic component design on various integration platforms (optical polymers, silicon-on-insulator, silicon-nitride and glass), design of high added-value subsystems based on photonic integrated circuit (PIC) technology such as transmitter optical subassemblies, receiver optical subassemblies, optical switches, optical beamforming networks for wireless antennas, sensor interrogators and optical phased arrays for laser beam steering applications, development of digital signal processing (DSP) solutions for optical communications and sensing systems, and development of electronic control units for photonics-enabled devices using a variety of digital electronic solutions (FPGAs/micro-controllers) and tailor made analog amplification solutions.
Experience and Expertise
The people of Optagon Photonics have been actively involved in the past in a large number of R&D actions in photonic integration, biophotonics, optical communications and optical sensing having leading technical positions, creating innovation and turning concepts and ideas into pre-commercial prototypes. Optagon Photonics is currently participating in the H2020 project called ICT-3PEAT (3D Photonic integration platform based on multilayer PolyBoard and TriPleX technology for optical switching and remote sensing and ranging applications) being responsible for the modelling of optical phased arrays, for the development of the control electronics of optical switches and laser Doppler vibrometers (LDVs) and for the overall technical management of the project.
